NEW FA24 COURSE - OT 670.L1 - Jewish & Rabbinic Interpretation of Old Testament Texts

This course will familiarize students with the rich heritage of Jewish biblical interpretation and provide a framework through which students can access and understand the historical development of Jewish interpretation of the Old Testament, from the Second Temple period to the closure of the Babylonian Talmud (c. 600 CE). Students will examine the variety of early Jewish works (Philo, Dead Sea Scrolls, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, apocalyptic texts) and rabbinic literature (Mishnah, Tosefta, Targum, Midrash, and Talmud). Students will examine the New Testament writings in their Jewish milieu, emphasizing the Messianic Jewish hermeneutics used by the first disciples of Yeshua/Jesus.
