Pedestrian Safety (On and Off Campus)

Check both directions for oncoming traffic before stepping off the curb. Always cross the street at the designated crosswalk where you are more visible to drivers. Although pedestrians have the right of way, never put yourself in a dangerous position by challenging a driver to stop for you. Drivers have blind spots or may not see you until the last second because you are hidden by parked cars, shrubbery, or bright sunshine before you enter the crosswalk.
