Keeping Kids Safe

Parents are responsible for the safety of their kids. Teach kids how to use the telephone for emergencies and help them memorize important phone numbers if they are not already stored in your phone. Make sure your kids know where to go in case of an emergency. If your kids are old enough, consider enrolling them in a first aid or babysitting course. Kids should have a supervising adult, visibly present, with them at all times. Per the Colorado Department of Human Services, “Colorado has accepted the age of 12 years as a guideline for when it might be appropriate for a child to be left at home alone for short periods of time.” However, parents must use their judgment based on their own child’s maturity level.
