A Liturgical Prayer for Seminary Students Entering Their Final Week Before Finals

O God of wisdom and truth,
who calls your people to love you
with heart, soul, and mind,
We come to you at the threshold of this final week—
a week filled with papers to complete,
exams to prepare for,
and responsibilities that press in on every side.
You know the weight we carry.
The words yet unwritten,
the arguments yet clarified,
the material not yet mastered.
In moments when our minds feel tired
and our focus begins to fray,
Grant us clarity of thought.
Grant us discipline in our time.
Grant us perseverance to finish what is before us.
Help us to write with honesty and insight,
to think critically and faithfully,
and to offer our best work
not as a measure of our worth,
but as an act of stewardship.
Guard us from anxiety that overwhelms.
Guard us from comparison that distracts.
Guard us from the quiet fear
that we are not enough.
Remind us that you have sustained us this far.
For the exams ahead, steady our minds.
Bring to memory what we have learned.
Give us calm in the moment,
and freedom from panic.
Let our preparation be sufficient
,and our efforts be enough for the task at hand.
And as this week gives way to the end of the term,
we turn our hearts toward what follows.
For the gift of summer, we give thanks.
For rest after long labor,
for slower days and renewed rhythms,
for time to breathe and be restored—
prepare us to receive these as gifts,
not as escapes,
but as holy invitations to be renewed.
Teach us how to rest without guilt.
Teach us how to step away without fear.
Restore in us what this season of study has worn thin.
For those who will graduate,
we stand in this moment of both ending and beginning.
We give thanks for all that has shaped us—
the lectures and late nights,
the friendships and formation,
the questions that deepened our faith.
As we step forward,
steady us in the transition.
Let gratitude mark our leaving.
Let humility guide our next steps.
Let courage rise within us
as we move into what is unknown.
For those continuing in study,
grant renewed vision.
Protect us from fatigue that lingers.
Reignite curiosity and calling.
Carry forward what has been learned
into the work yet to come.
And for all of us—
whether graduating or continuing—
as we move toward ministry spaces,
Prepare us, O Lord.
Form in us hearts that love your people well.
Give us wisdom beyond our years.
Give us compassion deeper than our knowledge.
Give us integrity that endures when tested.
Keep us from relying solely on what we know.
Teach us to depend on you.
Let what we have studied
become what we embody.
Let theology become lived faith.
Let knowledge become service.
Let calling become obedience.
And in every place you send us—
classrooms, churches, communities, and conversations—
go before us.
We place this week into your hands.
We place our futures into your care.
Sustain us, guide us, and carry us forward.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
